Behind the Scenes – Getting Ready for TV Segment and Magazine Shoot

By: Amy Atlas, in Amy's Latest, Behind The Scenes
We are super busy getting ready for a three day magazine shoot and a tv segment this week. We’re putting together four dessert bars this week and by the end of day yesterday, my head was spinning out of control with all the details that go into planning our tables. We did some of the prep work in my home and my kids were so excited to see candy everywhere in my home and be…

Better Homes and Gardens Shoot

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
I have to apologize for not blogging yesterday while at the Better Homes and Gardens shoot and O Magazine party. The events were back-to-back and both were extremely exciting and intense so we just couldn’t blog while things were happening. But I am here now to give you the behind the scenes of the first event yesterday morning. It was a special shoot with Better Homes and Gardens for their May 2010 issue. I can’t…

Happy Hanukkah!

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
Hanukkah spirit is in our house today. Our house smells of sweet potato latkes, jelly doughnuts, and the cookies below. Our kids are singing hanukkah tunes, spinning dreidels and admiring the cookie menorah that we posted earlier in the week. Happy Hanukkah from our house to yours! Hanukkah Cookie Bags

With Hanukkah quickly approaching, we wanted to give you one more fun baking and crafting project. We created little cookie bags, which we made look like mini shoe dust bags, by simply sewing paper that we found from Kate’s Paperie. With these cookie cutters, we baked off a basic sugar dough , and then decorated the cookies with royal icing from here. We then filled our little cookie bags with the Hanukkah cookies! We hope…

Hanukkah Cookie Menorah

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
Hanukkah starts this Friday at sundown and I thought you would enjoy this cookie candle menorah that we worked on for Hanukkah. This fun dessert and craft project makes a great centerpiece on the Hanukkah table. It is also a fun project that your kids can help out with because you can enlist them to decorate the cookies! Simply pick up these cookie cutters from Sur La Table, bake off a basic sugar cookie recipe…

Burnt Butter Pumpkin Pound Cakes

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
We had many inquiries about the burnt butter pound cakes that we created for our Thanksgiving dessert buffet. We used one of the last recipes from the wonderful Gourmet Magazine. It is a good old fashioned pound cake recipe, and we spiced it up by baking them in mini pumpkin pans and adding tinted vanilla glaze. * 2 1/4 sticks unsalted butter * 2 cups sifted cake flour (not self-rising; sift before measuring) * 1…

Thanksgiving Dessert Buffet

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
Thanksgiving is hands-down my favorite holiday. Growing up, Thanksgiving was the big holiday in our house and it still is to this day. There is something about the holiday that makes me giddy with excitement. Time stands still on Thanksgiving weekend and my family and I eat, talk, eat, talk, and eat and talk some more well into the night! For me, the holiday evokes memories of marshmallows bubbling on sweet potatoes, my mom’s amazing…

Goth Party!

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
This past weekend, I put together a goth dessert display for a sweet 16. Planned by Sara Csillag of Little Star Events, the lucky sweet 16 gal had a decked-out goth-style event at the very trendy Tenjune nightclub. This kind of a display was a little different than the dessert tables that I typically put together. Rather than creating a cupcake tree, we decided to have a dramatic cupcake display created with a goth vibe.…

The display will include a giant fondant goblet, goth tiara cupcakes, and bleeding hearts cupcakes. These kids are going to have a bloody good time!…

By: Amy Atlas, in Amy's Latest
Many of you know that I was lucky enough to fly to LA two weeks ago for Mindy Weiss’ Most Ridiculous Wedding Event Ever. Well, here are some pictures from the “ridiculously talented” Elizabeth Messina of our dessert table. Style Me Pretty, the ultimate wedding blog, posted these pictures today. Yes, we know that we are seeing vintage, autumnal weddings everywhere, but we thought that we would shake things up a bit with a more…

New York Magazine Fall 2009 Listing

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
We were so pleased to learn that we made it into the Weddings New York Event Planner listings of New York Magazine again for Fall 2009. Weddings New York is the bible for all brides looking for the best vendors in New York, so we are quite honored. Read the raving review above, where they mention that we became “internationally known as the dessert table designer(s) after setting the trend with (our) signature dessert and…

By: Amy Atlas, in Amy's Latest, Behind The Scenes
We’re busy getting ready for some parties and Martha Stewart Weddings 15 Anniversary, but in the meantime here is a sneak peek of what we did for Mindy Weiss’ most ridiculous wedding event ever. We used bright colors and our own version of a greek-key pattern, creating a very modern look for our dessert table. Pictures of the whole table by Elizabeth Messina will be coming next week. We can’t wait to share them!…

Halloween Stained Glass Cookie Tree

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
With holiday entertaining around the corner, we’ve been super busy with a bunch of projects so I apologize for the lack of blogging for the last 2 days. One of the projects was creating this stained-glass cookie Halloween tree. We had seen a lot of stained-glass cookies used for Christmas, but not for Halloween. We created pumpkin, skull, bat and cat cookies. We then hung the cookies with ribbon off of gold-painted branches. I’ll provide…

Think Pink!

By: Amy Atlas, in Behind The Scenes
We’re thinking pink today at Amy Atlas Events. We’re working on a special project that has a lot of pink in it, including these fabulous white chocolate (tinted pink, of course!) cupcake holders. It couldn’t be a better time to be thinking pink. Tomorrow marks the first day of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since pink is the color used to express support for people who are diagnosed with Breast Cancer, we…
