Fancy Food Favorites 2013

By: Amy Atlas, in Amy's Latest, Great Finds

This week was the 59th Summer Fancy Food Show in NYC. My team and I walked our annual trek through over 2,000 vendor booths to find out the scoop on new confectionary products. Here is our list for what we’re loving this year.

(1) Droga Chocolates – Michelle Crochet’s rocky road chocolates are pretty rad and their honey chocolates are to. die. for. Think oozy sweet honey melting in your mouth. Killer. She also has beautiful packaging for her holiday items.

(2) Chuao Pop Corn Pop Chocolate – We couldn’t get enough of Chef Michael’s Chuao bars. You’ll need to check out the complete selection {potato chip bar anyone?}, but we fell hard for their Pop Corn Pop bar. The perfect combo of popcorn and chocolate. The best part? Savor the chocolate in your mouth and the chocolate will pop like pop rocks. Addictive.

(3) Steve’s New Orleans Style Ice Cream with Donuts – Steve’s Ice Cream is located in Brooklyn, but their flavors bring in a taste of southern flair. They are all about mix-ins. Think Southern Banana Pudding, Bourbon Pecan Pie, and Small Batch Bourbon Vanilla. We’re smitten with the New Orleans Style Ice Cream with bits of Donuts. Seriously, no brainer.

(4) Askinosie – We love how involved owner Shawn Askinosie is with working with farmers in Ecuador, Honduras, Philippines and Tanzania to produce beans for sustainable single origin bars. He now has new CollaBARations bars, including a Ancho Chile Goat Cheese bar with Katharine Kagel. Other CollaBARations include a Malted Milk Ice Cream bar with Jeni’s Splendid and a Toasted Hemp Seed Bar with Happy Hemp founder Tara Miko. Really good and great packaging, too.

(5) Madyson’s Marshmallows – It’s summertime and we love s’mores so we were instantly drawn to Breeze Wetzel’s clever idea of tucking different flavored chocolate chips into her marshmallows. Doesn’t this make camping so much better? We think so! Her marshmallow beverage toppers are also fab.

(6) Wild Ophelia – Yes, it was launched last year, but it is too good not to make our list again this year. Leave it to Katrina of Vosges Haut Chocolat and now her sister company Wild Ophelia to step up the game with pairing all natural chocolate with innovative flavor profiles.Beef Jerky, Southern Hibiscus Peach and Salted Chowchilla Almond are just a few of the Americana flavors. As always, the packaging rocks.

Stay tuned…we have a few more vendors that we’ll be showcasing over the next few weeks…
