Just yesterday, the First Department of the Appellate Division of NY unanimously ruled against Mayor Bloomberg’s Soda Ban by upholding a former NY Supreme Court ruling. All this soda talk got us thinking about soda in our office, especially since I’m a recovering Diet Coke drinker. I pulled out Andrew Schloss’ Homemade Soda book from my cookbook collection. This book has homemade soda recipes, often incorporating fresh fruits and herbs. I found a Sour Cherry…

Our heads are in the clouds today with this sweet Hot Air Balloon themed dessert table that was styled by Belinda from Styled By Belle for a little boy’s christening. Belinda chose a soft blue & white color palette with pops of red to bring in the red hot air balloon. Sweet treats on the dessert table included cloud cupcakes, macarons, cloud cookie pops, homemade cloud marshmallows, and a beautiful two tiered cloud cake. Great…

Are you all ready for a rockabilly party? Gillian of Crumbs of Comfort Cake Design styled this fun themed party for her daughter’s 7th birthday. Gillian brought in cherries and flamingos for the design since those were icons tied to the rockabilly fad. The birthday girl celebrated with a handful of friends in a vintage caravan. All the guests had their hair quaffed by the lovely Pin Up Kat of My little Rockabilly. The girls…

The royal baby was not the only news out of England making headlines this week. With all of the excitement surrounding the British Open last week (YAY Phil Mickelson!) our minds were drifting to beautiful fairways and preppy attire. We were inspired by the lush greens and blue water of the course to come up with a Glam Golf Party. We love bringing in elements from the theme, but doing it in an understated way.…

We love how Duchess Kate wore a blue and white polka dot Jenny Packham dress yesterday while leaving the hospital just as Princess Diana did when she left the hospital with baby William. We’re huge fans of Kate’s fashion and pulled together some polka dot party ideas inspired by the dress everyone is talking about. These products are timeless and perfect for a baby shower, right?

We hope you all had a great weekend. We have had some HOT days over the past couple of weeks. We love the idea of a frosty cold beer on a hot summer day. For St. Patty’s Day, we shared this Root & {Guinness} Beer Float recipe with you. It was only a matter of time before beer made its way into the sweets world with craft beers being all of the rage these days.…

How pretty is this pony party from Miranda of Whimsically Detailed? She created this shabby chic party for her daughter’s birthday? Miranda offset the hay from the traditional barn theme with feminine items like her daughter’s pink chandelier, a custom silk linen, and a background of pink and turquoise rosettes. A spray painted step stool and crates gave height for the desserts on the dessert table. The treats on the dessert table were gorgeous, including…

Anne of El’uccellino Design styled this “birds and the Mommy to bee” dessert table for a client’s baby shower. Anne brought in burlap and birdcages to play up the theme. She found grapevine cones at the craft store and turned them into beehives by attaching felt circles and fake bees. She also hung construction paper bird cut outs with ribbon and guests wrote their wishes for the ba-bee on the birds. Sweet treats on the…

With the world waiting to hear news about the Royal Baby, royal baby shower themes are definitely on trend. We gathered some fun ideas and products for a Regal Royal baby shower. Since we don’t know if it is a boy or a girl, we think a Britannia Union Jack color palette with royal blue and red is perfect. You don’t need a fortress for this fete. Use baby rattles with handles for napkin holders,…

We’re not the biggest fans of clowns, but Melissa of The Sweet Society made this circus/clown party so chic. Melissa created this for her son’s 8th birthday. Melissa’s son loves the Bozo the Clown book so Melissa used that as inspiration for the party. We love how the old fashioned machinery at the venue gave it a vintage vibe. Sweet treats on the dessert table included a clown harlequin cake, clown cakepops, star cookies, rice…

Aloha everyone! We are loving this Luau dessert table that Nikki created for her daughter’s 5th grade dance. The fabulous background design was made of giant crepe paper flowers and was inspired by vintage Hawaiian postcards. We love how Nikki cut paper to look like fruit and how she made the the fringe serving pieces from construction paper. However, our favorite element is pineapple cake pop centerpiece! With the pineapple being a prominent symbol of…

1) Plum Clafoutis 2) Plum Almond Tart 3) Plum Cake 4) Plum Galette 5) Plum Financiers 6) Plum Cherry Crumble 7) Roasted Plums.
We’re talking plums today. I think that plums don’t quite get the attention they should receive. Somehow cherries, peaches, and strawberries steal the show during the summer months, right? It’s a shame since plums work so well when baked into cobblers, galettes, financiers, cakes, crisps and crumbles. In my area, plum season…
