Confession…I’m a Nutella addict. Well, you all know I love chocolate and nuts so it isn’t that big of a surprise, right? In honor of World Nutella Day this Tuesday, we are sharing our Nutella truffle recipe with you from Sweet Designs. If the thought of Nutella hazelnut spread sounds good this morning, just imagine what it would taste like mixed with good chocolate, butter and of course hazelnuts into small, round truffles. These truffles are decadent and they have the most wonderful crunchy texture wrapped within a smooth, velvety chocolate ball. You can use any color sprinkles you wish to make the truffles fit the color scheme of your occasion. For example, in the book we have orange and yellow sprinkles wrapped around the Nutella truffles for Halloween, but we are sharing a picture of our pink sprinkle coated truffles since they would be perfect for Valentine’s Day. Beware – these will be eaten quickly. They are that good.
What is your favorite recipe using Nutella?
HAZELNUT TRUFFLES
Makes 2 dozen
1 cup good-quality bittersweet chocolate chips, such as Ghirardelli, melted
12 tablespoons hazelnut spread like Nutella
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, very soft
1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
3/4 cup sprinkles
1. In a large bowl, add the hazelnut spread and butter to the melted chocolate and stir with a wooden spon until thoroughly combined. Stir in the hazelnuts. Chill until firm enough to scoop, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
2. Dump the sprinkles onto a rimmed plate. Scoop a flat tablespoon of the chocolate mixture into the palm of your hand and roll into a ball, then roll in the sprinkles and place on a sheet pan.
3. Chill again until firm, at least 30 minutes.
4. ENJOY.
