Moon Day – Fun DIY Project

By: Amy Atlas, in DIY and Templates, Kids, Recipes

Just over a week ago, the Atlantis lifted off and became NASA’s final space shuttle flight. Isn’t it a little bittersweet? How fitting that the end to this program dovetails with its beginning. Today is Moon Day, the day that Neil Armstrong uttered that famous phrase, “It’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”  The day that he and fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon in 1969.  It is hard to believe that was only 42 years ago.

Since school is still out and I’m always trying to give my own space-obsessed sons fun projects during this summer, I thought I’d share this easy DIY Rockin’ Rocket favor that we created for Disney Family Fun Magazine.  Not only is the project very easy {honestly – it involves a paper cup, card stock, this template, and a glue stick!}, but it can also get your kids excited about science when they aren’t in school.  Take the opportunity to tell them about the historical importance of today and it may get your kids interested in space.

If you’re interested in more space ideas, check out the blast off birthday party I created for my older son a few years ago.  For those sans mini aliens in the house, feel free to check out this fun Shoot to the Moon Drink!
