Holiday Sweater-Inspired Kits

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
It has been a mere four days since we celebrated Thanksgiving and already I see Christmas and Chanukah decorations all over New York City. Yes, it is that time of the year and it is time to start thinking about how we will be decorating for the holidays! Melangerie NYC sent me this awesome (and very affordable) do-it-yourself holiday sweater-inspired party decoration kit that is perfect for an intimate holiday party. It is a pdf…

Happy Thanksgiving!

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
I’m cooking and baking with my family today, but wanted to stop for a second and wish all my wonderful readers a very Happy Thanksgiving. My house is filled with laughter from lots of kids running around (the cousins are here entertaining my kids – whew!), and I am reminded how thankful I am. I am thankful for my family, great friends, health, and for all of you who support me. I wish you a…

Burnt Butter Pumpkin Pound Cakes

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
We had many inquiries about the burnt butter pound cakes that we created for our Thanksgiving dessert buffet. We used one of the last recipes from the wonderful Gourmet Magazine. It is a good old fashioned pound cake recipe, and we spiced it up by baking them in mini pumpkin pans and adding tinted vanilla glaze. * 2 1/4 sticks unsalted butter * 2 cups sifted cake flour (not self-rising; sift before measuring) * 1…

Thanksgiving Dessert Buffet

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
Thanksgiving is hands-down my favorite holiday. Growing up, Thanksgiving was the big holiday in our house and it still is to this day. There is something about the holiday that makes me giddy with excitement. Time stands still on Thanksgiving weekend and my family and I eat, talk, eat, talk, and eat and talk some more well into the night! For me, the holiday evokes memories of marshmallows bubbling on sweet potatoes, my mom’s amazing…

Ticings Edible Icing Sheets

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
Mia from Ticings sent me over these edible icing sheets last week and they are fantastic. Ticings are edible icing sheets with modern designs that can dress up any cake, cupcake, cookie, or brownie. Amateur bakers can create beautiful desserts by simply peeling and pressing the edible icing sheets on their frosted dessert of choice. Ticings has a range of designs, including designs that are perfect for a wedding cake (like the wedding cake above)…

Pink and Yellow Diamond Dessert Table

By: Amy Atlas, in Amy's Latest
A few weeks ago, I posted about a pink project that we were working on at Amy Atlas Events. We were lucky enough to have the uber-talented Mel Barlow capture some of the details! Wedding blog guru Abby of Style Me Pretty featured the table on her blog this morning. The design of the dessert table was a geometric diamond motif, and was largely inspired by a rug pattern. I always say that you can…

C is for Cookie

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
Today marks the 40th Anniversary of Jim Henson’s Sesame Street and Bakerella outdid herself yet again and made her gorgeous cake pops into the wonderful characters on Sesame Street. I think Sesame Street brings back memories for all of us, right? I have vivid memories of watching Big Bird and the Cookie Monster as a young child. And now after over 30 years, I watch my own children laugh at those same characters on tv.…

Goth Party!

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
This past weekend, I put together a goth dessert display for a sweet 16. Planned by Sara Csillag of Little Star Events, the lucky sweet 16 gal had a decked-out goth-style event at the very trendy Tenjune nightclub. This kind of a display was a little different than the dessert tables that I typically put together. Rather than creating a cupcake tree, we decided to have a dramatic cupcake display created with a goth vibe.…

Behind the Scenes for Goth Party – Sketch of Goth Display

By: Amy Atlas, in Behind The Scenes
We’re getting ready at Amy Atlas Events for a goth-inspired display for a sweet 16 tomorrow. We’re channeling Ed Hardy for this party, which will include a super cool cupcake display made in all black, white and gold. Attached are sketches of some of the details for the cupcake display. The display will include a giant fondant goblet, goth tiara cupcakes, and bleeding hearts cupcakes. These kids are going to have a bloody good time!…

Eat Cake Be Merry

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
I’m always looking for new, creative vendors to work with. So when Liz of Eat Cake Be Merry emailed me about her new bakery with jaw-dropping pictures of her beautiful confections, I was very excited. Liz’s modern aesthetic is exactly the kind of look that I like incorporated into one of my displays. She uses color beautifully and doesn’t overdo it on the design of the cake. I’m loving her style! Check out her whole…

Baking for Election Day

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
In my earlier post today, I shared an election day cookie recipe that I was hoping to test out with my kids. Well, we had a chance to make them today and they were a hit. It has been a loooong Election Day at the Atlas household and this was a good activity while my kids were out of school. My kids were so excited when the cookies came out of the oven that we…

I’m LOVING these details from fellow planner/blogger Maria Cooke of Ritzy Bee for letterpress designer/blogger Simplesong’s (Suann Song) son Ike’s third vintage election birthday party. Holly Becker of Decor8 featured this in her column for Real Simple. So, so cute!…

Election Day Cookies

By: Amy Atlas, in Uncategorized
It’s election day and hopefully everyone across the country is getting ready to head into voting booths to pull the lever for their favorite candidates. I used to work on political campaigns so I am always filled with excitement and pride on this very special day. For campaign operatives, there is little to do the night before the election but just wait it out until the next day for “get out the vote efforts.” I…
