Today is National Angel Food Cake Day. Angel Food Cake became known in the United States in the late 19th century and received its name because of the light and airy texture of the cake. This sponge cake requires cake flour, stiffened egg whites, cream of tartar, sugar, salt and vanilla. It is sometimes called the “cake of Angels” and we understand why! There is something so simple yet so delicate about the texture and it pairs well with everything from fruit to chocolate. We’ve compiled some of our favorite angel food cakes from across the web to get you in the angel cake mood.
What do you serve your angel food cake with? We’d love to know!
