By Lisa. A few months ago, I was asked by the Michaels crew to come to Dallas to talk trends, see their new products and meet their team. Amy went last year (you can read about her trip here and here) and I loved listening to her stories. I have to say, I came back so inspired and felt like I wanted to just make EVERYTHING! The event was fantastic so I wanted to give you guys a glimpse into my experience.
Upon arrival to the Hilton Anatole hotel, I was given a craft bag that contained the cutest journal made for me by the Michaels team. I was led into a room where “Craft Wars” was in full swing being hosted by Michael’s creative expert Jo Pearson (who also happens to be one of the judges on the TLC show). Jo was exactly how you would imagine her to be. Sweet, fun and so creative.
I chose to do jewelry making and sat down next to sweet Courtney from Pizzazzerie. I made an anklet for my daughter and, if I do say so myself, it looked pretty good for a first timer!
Lunch was next where Andrej Suskavcevic, the President of Craft & Hobby Association, was our guest speaker. He spoke passionately about a new campaign they are launching next year called Cre8time (watch the video here) which really resonated with me. The gist of the campaign is to allow yourself 8 hours each month to do something that makes you happy. Whether that is creating, scrapbooking or simply listening to music, I love that concept and have tried to adhere to it since coming back.
After lunch, we headed into the Holiday Showcase where vendors displayed their new product lines for the Michaels leadership teams. We were able to preview all of the new products that will be hitting the Michaels stores and watch demos by Tim Holtz and Duff Goldman. This show is usually for upper management only but this year, for the first time ever, they let us go in. I felt like a kid in a candy store. There were so many great products. One of my favorites was the yarn art of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Picasso’s The Dream.
The next morning, we walked into the Michaels room to find this gift for each of us…
Seriously, as if we were not spoiled enough, six boxes filled with glitter, paint, stencils, paint, hodge podge and more craft supplies than a girl could wish for!
I am so grateful to Michaels for the opportunity to spend time with their crew, get a sneak peek of their holiday products, and meet so many other amazing women. They left no stone unturned and took care of us from beginning to end. I hope you enjoyed the journey with me.
