Then you top it with cool whip. YUMMY! She would always make it for the 4th of July and decorate the top with blueberries and strawberries to make an American flag.

My favorite summer time treat is called Halo-halo. It’s a classic Filipino treat! Back home during summertime, you’ll find Halo-halo stands pretty much in every corner. This is what’s in it: you grab a tall glass then put and a bunch of cut up fruits in it like coconut, bananas, mangoes, and some would even put corn, sweetened beans,(i know it may sound weird but the combo is actually good!), tapioca, flavored gelatin (cut up in little cubes, then you pack it in with shaved ice. Then you drizzle evaporated milk and simple syrup in it, then you top it off with either a scoop of ice cream or leche flan (creme caramel). It sounds complicated, but the fun part is putting all the stuff together and tastes so good and refreshing! Especially if you use seasonal fruits in it 🙂

  • My favorite summer treat is a fresh peach and raspberry pie. The crust is made with vanilla wafers and the topping is real whipping cream.

  • Susan

i have an amazing recipe called pumpkin crunch. Basically you line a cake pan with waxed paper, mix up a pumpkin pie mix, put that in the pan. Next, empty a yellow cake mix on top, then cover with chopped walnuts. Then drizzle with melted butter. Bake it. Cool. Then flip over so the cake mix and nuts are the crust on the bottom. Top with Cool whip.

  • My favorite summer sweet: a Japanese-style crepe filled with green tea ice cream, strawberries and a dash of chocolate syrup 🙂

  • Hands down favorite: Strawberry Rhubarb Pie with homemade crust. I made this for the first time last summer with rhubarb from our local farmers’ market. Top it with freshly made whipped cream or vanilla ice cream and you have summer on a plate. Each bite is a literal swoon.

  • Ranya S

My favorite is grilled peaches with home made rum raisin ice-cream.

  • Pasha

Nothing says summer like a strawberry-rhubarb pie! Of course, if you can get fresh, just-picked berries and rhubarb from your garden, it is even better. My grandma makes the best one, as she still uses lard for her pie crusts. And a strawberry-rhubarb pie made by your grandma, just for you, is a priceless summer dessert! 🙂

  • Karlene

    summer sweat is ice cream

  • My favorite is rhubbarb strawberry pie with a crumb topping, just warmed a bit with french vanilla bean ice cream……yummy!!!

  • Karlee

Ooohhh, i love dessert! i love even talking & thinking about dessert! hard to pick just one, but i’d say fruit pizza or fresh picked strawberries & nectarines still warm from the sun! oh & ice cream after a bike ride…doesn’t matter what flavor! and maybe a jet bar! hehe! thanks for the chance at a give-away! how fun!!!

  • rene

Fudgesicles… that’s how you say “summer.”

  • Stephanie M

My new favorite is the Strawberry Summer Cake I made over the weekend. http://smittenkitchen.com/2011/05/strawberry-summer-cake/

  • Erin

Well I’m 4 months pregnant right now, so my favorite summer treat changes by the hour 🙂 But right now, it is tart flavored frozen yogurt with fresh strawberry and granola on top. The trick is to smush the strawberries all the way to the bottom of the yogurt for a few minutes so they get crispy and frozen before eating. Yummmmm!!

  • Kevin T

Mini Pecan Tarts! I just love the crunch from the pecans and the oozing deliciously sweet insides of the tart!

  • I love homemade yogurt popsicles! Combine mashed strawberries with honey, fresh lime juice, and low-fat yogurt in a bowl (blueberries/lemon juice is a great combo, too.) Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and freeze. Refreshing, simple, and healthy!

  • Alpha

My favorite is a lemon pie–tart, cold and creamy. I like to top it with fresh whipped cream to make it pretty. Yum…

  • Tina Dahl

Fresh sliced strawberries in a balsamic reduction. Sounds weird, but it is that sweet/tart thing that is heavenly!

  • Amber

My favorite dessert for summer is quick cake. It is my grandmother’s recipe. It is a dense sweet white cake with a brown sugar coconut pecan frosting. We always serve it with sliced strawberries fresh from the Farmer’s Market. It is so yummy.

  • claire-elisa

Easily BY far is the Lemon Tart – the bigger the better and with whipped fresh cream.

  • Lily Leung

    favorite summer treat: mango slush

  • When summer rolls around, I can’t help but want to make every dessert in my little brightly colored Le Creuset mini cocottes! Recently, our favorite dessert is Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie with a dollop of whipped cream and raspberry balsamic or whatever else I have around the house on top. Everyone just feels so special when they have their own dessert made just for them.

The flaky pie crust is the perfect little nest for the rich and melty chocolate that mixes brilliantly with the syrupy, crunchy pie mix. Throw a few whole pecans on top and its heaven! Tart, sweet raspberries from Papa’s garden have been a recent addition to these little bundles lately.

Best part, make them ahead and keep them in the freezer to pop in the oven right before guests come over!

  • What a great giveaway! It’s hard to decide for just one favorite dessert! But I think it would be a Summer Berry Triffle! It looks gorgeous, it’s inviting and the fresh berries that are just so juicy and sweet from being just picked are the best! 🙂 ah! Now I want some! 🙂 my e-mail: [email protected]

Thanks for the opportunity to enter! I am always here anyway … just because I love all your neat ideas, creative designs, and all the stuff that is published! 🙂

I love strawberries and lemons during the summer months and one of my fav recipes is Lemon Cloud with Strawberry-Mint Compote from cookinglight.com It’s light and refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness. It would look great scooped into the strawberry cups 😉

  • Can it be a cocktail? Start by muddling strawberries, basil and a little agave. Then stir with vodka and a little club soda and finish with a prosecco float. So refreshing! For dessert, nothing tops a towering pink layer cake made with fresh strawberry puree and iced with billows of fluffy strawberry cream cheese buttercream. Actually, I’d like a large hunk of strawberry cake in front of me with a fork in one hand and an icy glass of the strawberry basil cocktail in the other. 😉

  • My favorite summer sweet is mint limeade popsicles – so refreshing, and just perfect on a hot summer night!!

    Thank you for the chance!

  • Janine Berryhill

Gosh there’s so many to pick from because I had three grandmothers (I never called my step a step-grandmother) and all of them loved to bake. I think my all time favorite had to be my maternal grandmother’s apple fried pies with my paternal grandmother’s homemade vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately they never went by a recipe so I’m having a hard time getting mine to taste as good as theirs…close but no cigar. 🙂

  • Corie

I love tropical flavors. My favorite is to get some yummy sorbet and mix in some fresh fruit like pineapple, banana, kiwi, mango, raspberries anything you want I also love putting some coconut in there and then refreezing it and then serving it with some delicious white chocolate macadamia nut cookies on the side. Thank you!

  • Peach cobbler with whatever fresh berries we’ve just picked.

I make mine the way my grandmother did: in a cast-iron skillet, melt a stick of butter in a 350-degree oven . While the butter is melting, mix 1 cup self-rising flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup milk. Pour this mixture into the melted butter–do not stir. On top of that, scatter 2 cups fresh, ripe fruit. My favorite combination is about 1.5 cups sliced, fresh peaches from the farmer’s market and .5 cup fresh wild blueberries. Do not stir. You can sprinkle a tiny bit of sugar (.25 cup) on top of this if you like, but if your fruit is really ripe, you don’t need to. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes. The batter bubbles up over the fruit and turns golden and cakey and OMG SO GOOD.

Serve hot, topped with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • martina

Cherries! Or a salted caramel ice cream sandwich.

  • Even though pumpkin is generally more popular during the autumn, I still love baking with it during the summer too. Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake is my favorite pumpkin dessert. A layer of light, sweet cheesecake on a buttery gram cracker crust topped with another layer of cheesecake infused with pumpkin pie is wonderful when chilled and topped with whipped cream (especially a whipped cream/cream cheese mix!). works well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I have my grandma’s blackberry roll recipe. It’s a type of buscuit dough that you roll flat, put blackberries in and roll it up like cinnamon rolls. Slice and put in a baking dish with dabs of butter and sprinkled with sugar. Then make a simply syrup, pour over and bake in the oven. It comes out so yummy it’s unbelievable. Great with vanilla ice cream or fresh whip cream. We also make italian sodas with a blackberry syrup we make every summer. In the Pacific Northwest blackberries are everywhere and are free 🙂 Of course you can buy them but why 🙂

WOW! I just read through all the previous posts, and my mouth is watering. I have a wonderful dessert to share….Banana Split Ice Cream Pie!!! It’s amazing! Use an Oreo pie crust. After letting your strawberry ice cream soften, spread a layer on top of the crust. Add a layer of thinly sliced bananas and drizzle with chocolate sauce. Then layer vanilla ice cream, followed by a layer of fresh strawberries drizzed with pineapple dessert topping. The final layer is chocolate ice cream. Return to the freezer for a couple of hours to harden. Once you’re ready to serve, add freshly whipped cream to the top and garnush with chocolate shavings. It serves beautifully, and your guests will be amazed. So easy to make, and so refreshing and decadent!

Then whole freshly-picked strawberries are piled into the crust with a homemade strawberry glaze poured over everything. Homemade whipped cream to top it off…mm-mmm!

My favorite summer sweet here in Australia is a Pavlova. Think large meringue – crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, topped with sweetened whipped cream and fresh summer fruit. My all-time-favorite is with macerated summer berries and shaved chocolate. For an ‘easy does it’ picnic treat (or beach treat here in Australia) I replace it with store-bought meringues and smash them up. You can even ‘style it up’ in some cute mini apothecary jars. So versatile, easy and a perfect summer sweet! Now if only it wasn’t winter here.

  • My favorite summertime treat has to be my “Auntie Nita’s Specialty!!!” It is absolute heaven on a spoon! She starts by making a 7up pound cake from scratch (my grandmother’s recipe of course). Once that’s done and cooled she cuts it up in to small cubes. She then slices the sweetest strawberries she can find and soaks them in a mixture of water, sugar, and honey. Once perfectly marinated, she dumps them juice and all into the bowl of pound cake and pops it all into the fridge until it’s nice and chilly. We have a choice of a scoop vanilla ice cream or a hefty dollop of cool whip to top off our bowl. YUMMMMMM!!! It’s sooooo good :o) you have no idea!! Perfectly sweet, fresh, and cold! I can’t take it, I’m going to make some right now!

  • My favorite summer treat Is strawberry shortcake. Me and my mom would go berry picking one Sunday and then when we got home she would make the sugar biscuit and I would wash and hull the berries. IT was the one of the few times we had real whipped cream, just for this special occasion. When it was all layered, and sweet syrup poured over it would be our dinner on that late July evening out on the patio. It was a true indulgence we only ever did once a summer. MMMM was it good.
