The Very Hungry Caterpillar Guest Dessert Feature

By: Amy Atlas, in Featured Submissions, Kids

We are in Chicago today on the Sweet Designs book tour with Williams Sonoma tour and we were so happy to meet Kelly of the Well Heeled Hostess at the event. Kelly sent us this adorable Very Hungry Caterpillar party that will be featured in her Party Dress Magazine next week. Kelly styled this party for a client’s party inspired by Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” book. Her goal was to focus on the fruit, create a design using primary colors, and give the caterpillar a current interpretation. The sweet treats were definitely the stars of this party. Apple cupcakes, which Kelly mentioned were inspired by the cupcakes from the Apple Of My Eye chapter of Sweet Designs, were placed in “grass” cupcake holders. Other sweet treats on the dessert table included a fantastic cake with an adorable caterpillar perched on top, fruit shaped cake pops, sugar cookies, and fruit shaped rice crispy treats with little holes in them (we LOVE). The table setting had another fantastic feature, a 3-D caterpillar centerpiece that kelly crafted from painted mini paper lanterns. A table runner made from her polka dot fabric, simple yellow plates, her custom paper goods, and striped silverware from Pottery Barn Kids added to the whimsical look.  Each child had a name plate hanging on the back of their colorful chair featuring a different fruit from the collection. Guests brought home cello bags and red boxes full of hard candy from Candy Warehouse. This party was a HOLE in one! Scroll down for the vendor credits.
