Quarter 2: Cannoli Vs. Blueberry Pie (Plus Wilton Football Giveaway!)

By: Amy Atlas, in Swag, Sweet Origins

If you were here this morning, then maybe you are already part of our Sweeterbowl game.  We’re now in the second quarter and the Giants are in the lead by 7. If you are just joining the game, each quarter you will be asked to tell us which dessert you prefer..the traditional New York/New Jersey vs traditional New England. Leave your choice in the comments section of the blog. Each quarter will stay up for two hours. After that quarter, we will tally the votes and the winner will be announced.  Each quarter is worth 7 points. If there is a tie, the team that received the most votes overall, will win. See details below for Wilton Giveaway.

Quarter 2

We may be a little biased, but NYC definitely has the best cannoli’s in the US. If you have never been down to Little Italy, you almost feel transported to a little Italian village. Cannoli’s got their start in Palermo. The singular, cannolo (or cannolu in Sicilian), means “little tube”. They were historically prepared as a treat during Carnival season. The American variation usually contains ricotta, but mascarpone is a less common alternative. Sometimes the filling is a simple custard of sugar, milk, and cornstarch. Top it off with powdered sugar or chocolate and some whipped cream and we are talking Il Paradiso!

First eaten by American settlers, Blueberry pie is still a popular dessert all over the US and around the world. Blueberry Pie made with Maine blueberries is the official state dessert of Maine. The flaky crust and sugar sweetened blueberries are sure to bring back a sense of nostalgia.

C’mon guys..pick your winner for Quarter 2. Giants or New England? Leave your comment below and don’t forget to tell us where you go to get this dessert.

PS – We just found out that Wilton is joining the game.  Anyone who plays has a chance to win this football cake tin and these football baking cups.  There will be one winner for the giveaway and we’ll announce the giveaway winner later today.

Details for Giveaway – To enter, you must be a fan of ours on Facebook.  One winner will be chosen from the comments/entries from all four quarters in the game. You can leave a comment in each quarter. The winner will be contacted via email and will need to respond with requested information within 48 hours or an alternate winner will be chosen. Get on running!

Between cannoli and pie? Cannoli for sure, there is just something about a fresh filled cannoli, that I love

  • Pass me a slice with ice cream first, then I will have a cannolo with an espresso, and may the best team win, I don’t care.

  • I have to go with the cannolo as I love them, and pie is just too rich!
