Happy National Popcorn Day and Giveaway!

By: Amy Atlas, in Great Finds, Swag

By now, you all know I have a slight obsession with cookbooks. While perusing Amazon the other day, I came across this book and threw it in my cart! Since today is National Popcorn Day (according to some sources), I thought today would be the perfect day to share this great find. Hannah Miles shows how popcorn can be dressed up in a myriad of fabulous flavors from sweet to savory! Sweet popcorn recipes include a classic Butter Toffee, Banana Maple, and indulgent Raspberry & White Chocolate, while savory recipes include Thai-Spiced, Chili, and  Pumpkin Seed. These fun recipes will change the way you look at your favorite movie treat. The book also shows readers how to turn popcorn into cookies, cupcakes and sundaes. Fun!

Good news….Ryland Peters & Small will be giving away one copy of this book to one of our lucky Facebook fans. Please note, this book does not come out until March so even though the winner will be picked next week, the winner will not receive their copy until then. To win, you must like us on Facebook and simply tells us in the comments below what your favorite popcorn combination is.

One winner will be chosen from the comments/entries on this post. Giveaway ends on Monday January 23, 2012 at 11:59 PM EST. The winner will be contacted via email and will need to respond with requested information within 48 hours or an alternate winner will be chosen.  Get on popping!

We love popcorn at our house, with a long time favorite being dad’s caramel corn that he makes from scratch. Speaking of which, I think it is time for dad to get cooking…

My favorite way to eat popcorn is dropping a whole box of snow caps into it. I Love the salty and sweet taste all at the same time!

  • lol I will freely admit that my all time favorite popcorn combo may seem strange (and gross to a few people I have met), but I LOVE my popcorn with a dash of hot sauce and diced up dill pickles. I only add enough hot sauce to add a little kick to the popcorn and it tastes so darn yummy with the tartness of the pickles. Every now and then I will toss in a few mini m&m’s to the spicy/sour mix and I am in heaven. My more traditional favorite would be caramel corn 🙂

    • I’m completely obsessed with popcorn! All Flavors!! I actually ended up opening my own popcorn shop! It’s so cool that all these people love popcorn as much as I do!! Just thought I’d share because I saw your favorite flavor! please don’t feel like you have to look or anything.. Just thought it’s cool you like my favorite!!! 🙂

My favorite popcorn as a child was when my grandma poured Chili powder over it. I was never a fan of chili (as a child), but when it came to popcorn and chili, I would eat the entire bowl.

Also, my mother used to make popcorn balls for all of my slumber party’s. Popcorn that was salted with melted butter, would then pour melted caramel and little chocolate chips. She would let it cool slightly and then roll into little balls and placed on a tray. It was perfect for my 5 year old fingers and we were able to run around without having to sit with a plate. She would also make them into little shapes like Mickey Mouse and would put sticks in them. Fun. (of course that was before she had all 4 girls) 🙂

  • wendy

I love popcorn in all forms and eat it almost everyday. I grew up eating air popped popcorn with just a bit of salt and butter. For a sweet treat I let myself have some kettle corn.

  • We love making our own microwave popcorn. Just as easy as any store bought but tastes so much better! It’s much healthier, less expensive and just as good as air popped. Place a 1/4 cup of kernels into a paper lunch bag. Close the top and fold it down about 1/2 inch, then fold it down again. Stand it up inside the microwave and pop on the popcorn setting. Pour popped corn into a bowl and season however you like, even if it is with hot sauce and pickles. (Mary, I will give it a try!) We love it with a little bit of olive oil and some sea salt! Try it once and you’ll never buy a box of microwave popcorn again! Sorry Mr. Redenbacher.
