Back To School Guest Feature

By: Amy Atlas, in Featured Submissions, Kids

We’re on to our third school related post of the day.  I know that school is starting for some of you in a couple of weeks (for us, not until after Labor Day), so when I saw this I thought it was the perfect time to share.

One of the things I love my most about my “job” is that it allows me many opportunities to give back.  I have always been a big believer in giving back and it is something I am always trying to instill in my kids.  This “Back to School” party by Nancy of A to Zebra Celebrations is the perfect example of showing kids how to give back. The purpose of the party was to reach out to kids in need who don’t have the financial support to get their own supplies for school. The party took place in a classroom at one of Nancy’s local churches.  She invited a few of her daughter’s friends to participate and all were proud to bring their own school supply donations for other kids.  Kid friendly snacks were set up like apple sauce and juice boxes, pretzels and chips. The donations will be dropped off at Treasures4Teachers.org in Tempe, AZ. I bet there are a lot of kids who will be going back to school in style thanks to Nancy and her friends. Bravo Girls!

Very cute. On another note my husband turns 50 this year and there are lots of great party ideas for baby showers, kids birthdays and even for the ladies. Any great ideas out there for men?

Pick what he loves and roll with it. I did a 70th birthday party for my dad recently. He is a mechanic and loves to restore old cars. I came up with “A Ride Down Memory Lane” for a theme. Invites had a black/white picture of him standing by his favorite truck that he owned for years. I made a memory bulletin board with the theme written across the top and included pictures of vehicles he restored over the years. I used old wooden trays for serving. I made a playlist of car themed songs tonplay in the background during lunch. I also included pics from his drag-racing days. I kept decorations simple…old washtub for drinks, rustic wooden truck found in Hobby Lobby’s Garden section, Route 66 and other metal signs and die-cast model antique cars/trucks from his collection. I served his favorite meal…beans & ham with cornbread, and added in sandwiches and chips for the younger crowd. It was a huge hit with him and all of the men.

That is very sweet. Our school does a similar drive during school. Nothing like giving back.

This is such an AWEsome idea! My head is spinning with ideas. My daughter’s birthday is August 19th, so this would be great to incorporate into a birthday party. Set up chalk/dry erase boards, art supplies, etc. Also, instead of gifts guests could bring a backpack full of supplies. Love it! Thanks for the ideas! Definitely borrowing this!

  • Basic, Beautiful and Benefical… this is a great cause! Well done.
