Italian Guest Dessert Feature

By: Amy Atlas, in Featured Submissions

Viva Italia!  Alison from Viva La Diva Events created this table to showcase a new exposed-brick filled private space. With the help of cake designer Heather Leavitt from Sweet Heather Anne, she created an Italian Tour de Force.  I always talk about bringing inspiration in from surroundings. I am inspired every day living in Manhattan. I have let you into a couple of my favorite spots for inspirations here and here.  For Heather, her inspiration came from Italian architecture.  She was inspired by a pattern on a dining set from anthropologie and weathered terracotta pots. The backdrop is magnifico. An Italian courtyard was hand-drawn on a chalkboard backdrop. How great is that?  Adding the lights was such a simple and creative way to make it feel more authentic. Pistachio, blood orange, and browned butter and sage macarons added pops of color.  Beautiful.

Is the hanging clear vase with the sweet pea, a clear glass ornament?

  • Hi Angela! The hanging clear vase is similar to an ornament. I borrowed them from the floral designer on this project (Passionflower); however, I have used similar versions before for events and and purchased them on CB2.

Thanks to everyone for all your kind words! We had so much fun doing this – and now I’m craving a trip to Italy and baked goods more than ever. 🙂

  • Thanks so much everyone! We had a blast putting this together!

The scene on the chalkboard was actually inspired by Fiesole, though I took some artistic liberties to give it the feel we were looking for. The whole table was a treat for me, as I was able to reminisce about the fabulous time I had studying abroad in Italy. Maybe I’ll have to go back for some fresh inspiration. 😉
