Right now he is building a 2 story addition to our house so we can add to our growing family. Several weeks ago, he offered to watch our daughter while I took a trapeze class, and then to help me practice outside of class, he designed and built a trapeze bar using spare parts from work (he fixes cars). Even better, he figured out how to hang it from the high ceilings in our living room. I know it is crazy, but that is him, supportive to the point of lunacy!!! I have pictures of me on my home made trapeze, if you want to see it!

My first handmade card would go to my grandmother. She has been sending cards to everyone she has met since she was old enough to write. She sends cards for holidays, special events or just to say hello. She has a book with all the names and addresses in it so she can keep track of what she sends. She still writes to her elementary classmates. Any given day she sends 20 or more cards and handwritten notes out.

  • Kacee

I would make stationary for a friend who lives in a nursing home.. we keep in touch via old fashoned mail! She gets the cards I craft, and long letters of how the kids are growing!

  • What a wonderful machine! I love the look of letterpress. I would make baby announcements for my Brother & Sister in law, as well as help out my friend who is getting married and make some wedding invites or table seating cards. I would love to make cards for my Dad. I am blessed to have a wonderful relationship with him and also was very close to my late Mom (she passed on March 30th). Since my Mom passed away (my parents were married 47 1/2 years) and my Dad lives in CA, I am making an extra effort to do special things for him in addition to calling on a regular basis. He loves getting things in the mail and this would give me the opportunity to give him something that I’ve made especially for him.

  • It would be great to send some homemade cards to my MIL. She is tricky to shop for!

  • Kim

There are so many people deserving of homemade cards, but no one more than my kids’ preschool teacher who is always making things for others.

  • Oh my goodness, just the other day I was wishing there was a small letterpress machine for simple artists like me! How cool that there IS such a machine! I’ve made linoleum cut cards before but this looks like a much easier process. In addition to cards, I make my own books – from writing and typesetting on the computer, to doing the artwork, to binding them by hand after printing. This machine would be a wonderful way to add interest to pages in my blank journals. The potential for this machine is awesome. My artistic sisters and girl friends would be the recipients.

  • I’d love to make a set of cards for my mom. She has 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren to buy cards for every year!

  • I’ve been drooling over this device for some time now, so I imagine the more correct answer would be “everyone!” But just one person for a special card? I’d have to go with my friend Liz, who knows every craft I don’t know, and is unfailingly generous with her talents and time. I can always depend on her friendship and help, no matter what wacky project I dream up.

  • I have my eyes on this tool for a long time!! I love the feeling of letterpressed paper!
I already make handmade cards, and the person who most appreciate them is my mother, who lives in Brazil. I will prbably make her some sets so she can use to send to her friends with cakes, cookies and other small gifts as she usually does.

I think the main recipients of my hand-made cards would be any ‘thank-you’ cards I need to give, since I’m surrounded by amazing and wonderful people every single day. I’m also thinking of giving my mother-in-law a box of all-occasion hand-made cards for Christmas this year. It would be a BIG project, but so fun! • Gregory Zentkovich

First, I would make my lovely wife, the mother of our three children, four (if you include me, I should include me), a personal letter press card with a hand-written poem (no, I not good at poems, but she likes them, and that settles that…) basically praising her on how well she takes care of all of us (kids)… and some lovey, dovey stuff (can’t post that…sorry). Next, since I would be on a roll… I would make my mother a card, wait scratch that, I have never done that before so that might give her a heart attack and we wouldn’t want that! Finally, I really think I would have to make some cards for my daughters to set a very HIGH standard now, that they will grow fond and accustom to so when the guys start “come a calling” they will have to do the same… and not just write one, oh no, they will have to “letter press” one baby or it will just hit the trash bin… yeah, that sounds good. Oh, but don’t worry, even by the off chance that I don’t win a lovely letter press machine, I am still resolved to make my wife and daughters (and maybe my mother) beautiful hand-made cards… but man that letter press machine would really make me look like a superhero =)

The first person to receive one of my letterpressed creations would be my Mom. My Mom is the person who taught me how to craft. It started as a means for me to have the things I wanted. We didn’t have much money, and I wanted the hip clothes and accessories that the other kids had. Mom spent hours with me showing me how to draft and cut and sew recreations of the clothes all my friends had. It translated into decorating, crafting, and being handy. I have her to thank for me being able to sew, craft, build or design anything I desire. She deserves a million cards, and a million thanks.

My grandmother’s favorite poem is the Daffodils by Williams Wadsworth. I want her to have something beautiful that can remind her each and every day of the world’s beauty.
