Feeling Frosty! Guest Dessert Feature

By: Amy Atlas, in Featured Submissions, Kids

We had a glimpse of summer with our Monday post..and today, even though it is cold outside, this table warmed our hearts.  We had to share this table that was submitted to us by Stephanie from Spaceships and Laser Beams. Stephanie created this table to put on their Etsy website to sell their cute DIY Printable Party Supplies.  I am loving the use of yarn like the yarn “craspedia,” the yarn topiary towers, and the use of yarn to decorate the desserts.  Stephanie’s inspiration came from trying to come up with a sweets table idea for her son’s birthday that would not garnish any “dirty looks” from the other parents.  The outcome is an adorable, yet healthy, table full of sweet treats. Here are just a few of the modifications that she used.  Instead of Cake Pops, Stephanie had “No Cake” cake pops that were made from a concoction of peanut butter (be careful of tiny guests that might have peanut allergies) and graham crumbs formed into balls and piped with a tiny bit of chocolate.  The Snowflake Pudding was homemade rice pudding.  The Winter Crisp was a combination of baked apples, blueberries and blackberries. For the crisp part, she simply used crushed pretzels, a little butter and brown sugar. Everyone knows I am a huge fan of the sweet and salty!  So sweet.  Enjoy.

Sweet Note:  Because Stephanie and crew believe that happy childhoods are about making every day feel special, 5% of all her Etsy sales goes to the YMCA Strong Kids campaign — to help young boys grow in to strong young men.

  • Thanks so much for the feature, it’s thrilling and very much appreciated. Also – for anyone looking for an allergy-free “no cake pop” option, try soy butter. Almost as good as the real thing!

  • OMG! This is sooo cute. I love the yarn “craspedia” in the vases. Very nice food choices also!

  • Love those pudding containers!

  • Love this very simple design including the framed picture!

  • So cute! Love the idea of having a healthy dessert table. Those no-cake pops look so yummy, the kids would never guess it was good for them!
Also love the yarn decorations, especially the hats. Great job Stephanie, will definitely be visiting your Etsy shop!

  • Wow looks great! I’m booking their Etsy shop!

I love this table. I will have to try some of these things for my son August’s birthday next year. He would love it since he loves Snowmen. I love the healthier alternatives because with the cake and sometimes cookies, at parties, it is enough sugar for most kids already.

  • Lorraine

PS. I would also like to know what the snowmen in the cake container were made out of – marshmallows? Is there a place other than the Etsy shop to contact Stephanie?

    • Hi Lorraine,
No worries – in the ultimate form of vanity I checked the comments again tonight as I was so excited to hear what people had to say. So sad. They’re actually made of cheese. Send me an email at spaceshipsandlaserbeams [at] gmail [dot] com and I will give you the details.

      Talk soon,

  • this is very nice! I wish I had a baby or a toddler at that ☺

  • Molly Marler

SUPER cute! Wish I had thought of that for my daughter’s recent b’day party. I should have passed out insulin shots as party favors we had so much sugar! : / Mom FAIL. Ah well, live and learn! Great job!

  • jasmine

so fun! the snowmen are my favorite.

  • aly

I agree, what a beautiful job and such creativity. I also love how there aren’t a ton of desserts, but the table still looks full and has a lot of variety. My hesitation with making a dessert table is the amount of different desserts that would be needed to make it look great, but this is proof that you don’t need that many. Thank you so much for sharing.

such an original concept, whimsical enough for kids and not too fussy at the same time, i love it all!

  • Love it all! The photo frame on the wall and the way the banner is hung is extra cute!
