KitchenAid Giveaway Part II

By: Amy Atlas, in Swag

Wow, we had an amazing response to the KitchenAid giveaway yesterday!  So much so, that our blog wouldn’t allow anyone to comment today!  Over 760 people entered yesterday and apparently there is a limit and we can’t quite fix the glitch yet.  We apologize for any inconvenience to you.  We want everyone to be able to enter before Monday so if you haven’t been able to post, then do so in this post.  Again, all you have to do is state what you will be baking for the holidays in the comment area.  If you were able to post, then do not post again here.  We will compare lists and you will be disqualified from the contest if you comment in both posts. Good luck!

Hooray! I’m glad we can post today. Every year, one of the many treats my family enjoys is the traditional cut-out sugar cookies. One year when I was 10 or 11, I was put in charge of making these cookies for Christmas. Because we have a large extended family, my mom told me to quadruple the recipe. In a moment of distraction, I accidentally 8x one of the ingredients, so we had to put in 8x the rest of the ingredients. Needless to say, we had a lot of cookies that year. My family never lets me forget it, and I’ve been trying to make up for that mistake since (20 years later). So, that’s what I’ll be making this year.

I will be baking LOTS for this holiday, but my favorite traditional thing to make is Danish Ginger Snaps. They are crunchy on the outside, and chewy on the inside. They are thin, and delish with a warm cup of coffee! I always get together with the ladies of the family to Christmas Cookie bake. We bring our fave recipes, bake and swap all while gossiping and drinking champagne and eating cheese (and a LOT of the cookies we’re supposed to be baking!) To me holiday baking is not just about the food, its about the family and loved ones you get to share it with!

  • amie

This kitchenaid would make EASY work of it! 🙂 Thanks for running a contest like this!

We are foster parents and one way that we help our foster children feel at home and supported is by making cookies and cupcakes. Its one way that they can connect, talk, and have a sense of family. During the holidays we bake cookies and treats for their biological family. The children are so happy that they made something for their family and are able to share it with them. Its just wonderful to see the faces of the children and their families! Our favorite to make are decorated sugar cookies and red velvet cake!!

  • Andressa

I love to bake Formigueiro (Anthill) cake. It is delish and my little family loves it so much!

  • Too funny…I thought it was me doing something wrong when I was trying to leave a comment…lol
Every year now we get together with our kids who are all adults and we spend the night taking down the “boose tree”. Sounds weird but it started years ago when I had the house up for sale and the realto told me to “keep it simple”…so I bought a table top tree, lots of miniatures from the liquor store and festive plastic shot glasses from the wedding center. Then we all get into our pj’s, pull out the games like Taboo, Trivial Pursuit, etc. and play games all night long. We sleep in and stay in our pj’s until dinner time when everyone has to head back home for work the next week. It’s a blast and we still do it even if it’s only 5 of us this year. Everyone has moved out of state so it’s so hard to get together, even for the holidays.

  • Hello from a cold and snowy north of England!
Having just had our pipes freeze, then burst and a monumental kitchen flood we have lost all sorts of the lovely things I was handed down by my late Mom and I would adore to be so incredibly lucky as to have something as truly wonderful as a kitchen aid in ruby red.
I worked as a chef for many years and so make and bake all kinds of lovely things including bread, pies and puddings. Last week I made a big batch of traditional mince pies with star shaped tops.
What I’d like to make with my kitchen aid? Swedish Gingerbread thins, we always give these to our friends and neighbours in the village. I would make them in heart shapes with a little hole at the top to thread gingham ribbon through so they can be hung on the tree 🙂

  • suja

I had lost my job towards the end of summer and in a way was glad about it since i had all the time in the world to plan my wedding which was in October of this month. Once that got over, i noticed i had a ton of time on my hands and decided to make this first thanksgiving of ours a special one and a memorable one -we had about 12 guests over so cooked and baked everything from scratch.I had baked three different kinds of pies – a pecan pie, an apple crumb pie and a chocolate tart all without any help of a food processor except for a grinder! 🙂 for my crusts

For christmas we always have our friends from london over for Christmas and new years, and since it is their first Christmas together as well as a married couple i thought id make it an extra special one- I have already baked snow-caped cookies , ginger snaps and a special christmas plum cake that we from india usually make for christmas. Seeing my husband munching down on these treats looks like i would have to make another batch soon before our guests arrive ;)…This kitchen aid processer would really help speed up the mixing process (used one at my cuz’s place)i would tend to make a ton more cookies for my guests, I guess i still would even without one…just for love of baking…:) and making our friends feel extra loved
    merry christmas!!!!!

  • Janelle Montalvo

  • Beverly

Making Banana Foster Cake and Triple chocolate mousse cake!

  • Dominique

This year, I’ve already made cupcakes of all kinds, and some sugar cookies (the kind with Kisses on top). My husband has made brownies and chocolate chip cookies. We always seem to have a large crowd over for study groups (as we’re both still in college) and the best thing to feed our friends is baked goods!

We still have some cupcake mix that we’re saving- we’re going to make it together for our first Christmas! A mixer of any kind would be nice at this point, since we don’t even have a hand-held. And with all the baking we do year round, not only at Christmas time, we would love to not have sore arms while we eat our cookies… 🙂

  • Juli

Every year my mom, brother, and myself spend one entire day in December baking our traditional Christmas cookies…green Christmas tree spritz cookies, rum balls (YUM), my great-grandmother’s molasses cookies, marshmallow wreaths, my Nana’s cathedral cookies, gingerbread men, and strawberry candies. I love that I have a brother who steps into the kitchen and gets his hands dirty with the ladies. This mixer would totally be for my brother and his beautiful fiance, who are getting married summer of 2011. They LOOO.OOO.OOOVE baking, but have a crummy hand mixer that doesn’t work magic like the Kitchen-Aid mixers that mom and I have.

  • Lots and lots of cookies, including white chocolate, gingerbread, snickerdoodles, and peppermint sugar cookies. Which also means I will be consuming lots and lots of cookie dough.

  • Rachel

In our house the better question might be “What aren’t you baking this season?” 🙂
But the showstopper will be a devil’s food torte with praline buttercream and ganache.
I’ll worry about the calories in January!

  • Donna

I’ve been using a hand mixer for years. A teacher’s salary doesn’t stretch to a nice mixer like this one. I have just been released for the hospital because for Christmas Santa said I had to have a Hysterectomy so my baking is going to be a bit limited. I may not can do a lot but with the help of my daughter I can sit on a barstool and bake. At the same time she is in college and its about time she learns what goes into making a wonderful Christmas for family and friends. We will be baking homemade honey wheat bread, giant ginger bread men, traditional sugar cookies and I will pass down to her my great, great, great grandmothers ambrosia cake. I have never seen a recipe like it anywhere. I have a friend that is a chef and is begging to get a copy as its not a traditional ambrosia cake. Sorry It passes from mother to daughter. The Mixer with the special recipe would make a great Christmas gift for my daughter.

  • Hi! I absolutely love baking, around the holidays it’s a tradition my mom, grandma and aunts started way before I was born. It reminds me of years past and I’ve started my own tradition in my home – I make sure everyone in the family gets a tin filled with delicious homemade goodies. Most the recipes are family recipes that have been past for years and years. I make everything by hand, without a mixer and would love a Kitchen Aide mixer – my Aunt raves about hers. 🙂

I Love baking (with a capitol “L” ;). It’s something I do to unwind after a busy day. But baking also means quality time with my 4yr old daughter. So much can be learned from baking with your mom. From practical math to just plain old warm fuzzy memories :). Our mixer is on it’s last leg, and a new one would be awesome… But new or old, the result is sweet and the baked goods aren’t bad either.

  • Sugar cookies! My mom and I make dozens and dozens of cut-out cookies and spend hours at the dining room table decorating. I’d love a mixer like this to help! (Especially in red! CUTE!)

  • Margs

I will be baking my 30TH Birthday Cake these holidays!

  • I will be making biscotti, whoopie pies, lots of different cookies, toffee, chocolate covered pretzel sticks, eggnog cupcakes, mint chocolate cupcakes, pecan tassies, butterscotch tassies, and cheesecakes. Could really use a new mixer. Mine sounds like it’s about to die!!!

With this wonderful, magnificent mixer, I would be baking away. My latest goal is mastering cake pops but my delight is baking cakes and breads.

  • I have wanted a stand mixer for as long as I can possibly remember.

Every year I make a huge selection of cookies…cream cheese spritz, kolachy, cut-outs off all kinds, pumpkin cookies, candies, etc. Enough that it would take me months (well weeks and several pounds) to eat…so I send them to my husbands office and off to relatives instead.

  • Lisa
