No Carve Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Yes, I know Halloween is still a month away, but I’m a sweets and styling gal, so I get pretty excited about Halloween!   I’m working on some Halloween projects and stumbled upon these no-carve pumpkin decorating ideas.  Truthfully, pumpkin carving was never one of my favorite holiday activities.  Yes, I admitted it.  I tackle pumpkin carving every year with my sons and even do a kid’s version with their kid-friendly carving kit, but I start getting antsy when I know the project is coming up.  I’m always fearful of a pumpkin carving accident.  These no-carve pumpkin decorating ideas are kid-safe, innovative, and will get even a novice crafter excited about pumpkin decorating.   I love the decorative items used above like ribbon, buttons, candy, nails, decorative tape, chalk, and spray paint, but the possibilities are really endless. What will you be doing to decorate your pumpkins this year? Feel free to share your pumpkin decorating ideas in the comment area!

  • I absolutely love these ideas. I hate pumpkin carving for the fear of injury and my complete lack of creativity when it comes to using a knife as my main artistic tool. Can’t wait to whip out the paint and ribbon! Thanks!

I love all of these. I have a tradition that I started a few years ago with my now 5 year old nephew. We use “special pumpkin paints” as he calls them (I call them poster paints) and decorate the pumpkins he collects from the patch. Each year they get a little better and while it is still messy, there is no risk of losing a finger! After we paint them, we sometimes draw a face on them also.

  • Amazing and very nice!

Those are GREAT ideas! I have actually been involved in a “pumpkin carving accident” that involved stitches, so I’m always on the lookout for great ideas minus the knife 🙂 You should check out Studio 5 on

  • I love these ideas! I am not adverse to carving a pumpkin, but you can’t really carve a pumpkin at the beginning of October and expect it to last. These are awesome ways to decorate with pumpkins until it is close enough to actually carve them. SO CUTE!

  • I saw a cute idea where a store took pumpkins painted in the shiny champaign color and put a soft, light pink glitter on top. I think it was Pottery Barn Kids. SO cute 🙂
